Sharm el-Sheikh is surrounded by a giant concrete wall to protect tourists
Sharm el-Sheikh authorities have announced the completion of a 36-kilometer-long concrete wall around the resort. The new fortification should ensure the safety of tourists and stimulate the growth of tourist flow to the city. This was announced on Tuesday, February 9, by the Egyptian media.
The object itself is a concrete fence several meters high with sections of barbed wire fence. Four checkpoints equipped with video cameras and special scanners were organized along the entire length. All cars entering the resort will be thoroughly searched, passengers will also have to check documents and screen.
According to representatives of the Egyptian tourism industry, the unprecedented security measures introduced in Sharm el-Sheikh will help tourists return to the resort. After the terrorist attack in 2005, which killed 88 people, many foreigners are wary of resting in the city and choose Hurghada. This clearly shows the ratio of charters to Egyptian resorts. However, with the completion of the construction of the new fortification, the situation should change.
Note that in early February, Russian aviation and security experts completed another inspection of the airports in Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh. According to sources familiar with the situation, the delegation from the Russian Federation highly appreciated the preparedness of the air harbors of the Egyptian resorts and will submit a corresponding report to the Federal Air Transport Agency in the near future. In Egypt, they believe that this gives hope for an early resumption of charters from Russia to Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh.
